Chinese Cruiser Hai Chi
c. 1911
View of ship in Ramsden Dock Basin under control of tugs. Large Beiyang Army flag flying on aft mast. Many crew on after deck. Two men in dinghy handling mooring rope at stern of ship. Ships on either side. In 1911, Hai Chi visited the United Kingdom to participate in the fleet review held to mark George V's coronation. Built by Armstrong Whitworth in 1896-99. Was the biggest ship built by China until the Cold War. Her crew were helping to train the crew of Ying Swei that was building in Barrow.
