Taken from Biggar Bank on Walney Island, the photo shows the partial solar eclipse of 14 January 1924. This image is one of a seies of the event. The image shown is from the original negative and has not been retouched. Taken with a plate camera, it shows considerable technical skill in capturing the image.

A view of Wastwater and the Wasdale Screes, looking south-west from just below the summit of Great Gable. The Sankeys often carried their heavy camera equipment high into the Lakeland fells and took photos from quite precarious positions.

Looking north-west from near Askam-in-Furness, across the sands of the Duddon estuary at low tide. Black Combe is the prominent hill in the background, with Millom Ironworks dominating this view of the town.

Looking south-west. The pavillion is situated above the steep walls of Hawcoat Quarry. Ormsgill reservoir, a soap factory, a wire and hoop factory, as well as a brickworks, and the ironworks with its slagbank, can be seen in the background.

Skelwith Force at the Eastern end of Great Langdale. The River Brathey. Harrison Stickle (one of the Langdale Pikes) can be seen in the background, as can the steps and the viewing platform on the right.

Surprise View, just off the road to Watendlath, has been a popular viewpoint since Victorian times. The view looks north over Derwantwater to the town of Keswick, with the mountain Skiddaw (3053 ft high) behind. The southern end of Bassenthwaite Lake can just be seen on the left of the image.

A beutifully exposed and composed photograph taken at sunset looking across the River Esk, near Ravenglass. A ship sits on the sands and a small flock of sheep glow in the eavening light. Across the bay in the distance are the sand dunes and the gullery at Drigg.

Four deer in a group on the edge of a small wood, below the summit of Gowbarrow Fell to the West of Ullswater. By modern standards this is not a great wildlife photograph, but with the equipment available at the time its a very good effort.

Looking across Ennerdale Water towards Anglers Crag. In the foreground a young man is taking his partner out in a rowing boat, the water looks to be a bit choppy though.

Near the summit of the road over Birker Fell, between the Duddon Valley and Eskdale. Thats the Sankeys' car posed at the junction.

Looking north-east along the Ambleside to Kirkstone Pass road, which is known as “The Struggle”. The Inn is just visible at the summit of Kirkstone Pass. To the left are slopes leading to Red Screes, to the right to Caudale Head. The car belonged to the Sankeys. At the time, crossing Kirkstone Pass by car was considered an achievement.

View north over Seaththwaite Tarn to Grey Friar. The existing tarn was dammed and enlarged in 1904 to provide drinking water supplies.

Hollow Stones, on the direct route from Wasdale Head to Scafell Pike. At the centre of the image is the Mickledore col, with Pikes Crag and Pulpit Rock below Scafell Pike on the left. To the right are the main cliffs of Scafell. The image shows the crop marks used by the Sankeys in producing a postcard from this image.

A very common view from Ashness Bridge looking North over Derwentwater towards Skiddaw. The subject of very many photos and postcards.

The Wastwater Screes from below Buckbarrow. Wastwater is hidden in the dip below the screes. The hill behind is Whin Rigg.

Silhoutted on the skyline, a figure near the summit of Coniston Old Man.

The view across the Duddon Estuary from Foxfield. Tracks of the Furness Railway are in the foreground, Black Combe is the summit on the horizon.

A man stands in a dramatic position taking in the view to the east from Striding Edge on Helvellyn. Red Tarn is bellow him in the foreground, and in the distance the dry-stone wall that runs to the summit of Birkhouse Moor can be seen.

A dramatic view of Great Gable covered in snow and shrouded with mist as seen from the road to Wasdale Head. The 'Down In The Dale' bridge crosses the river and beyond that stands a prominent building, this was the Vicarage it is now called Lingmell House.

Looking south along the beach at Silecroft, on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria. Two people walk along the coastal path towards buildings in the distance.

The view west from the Japanese Gardens in Giggle Alley woods, Gatehouse, Eskdale Green. The gardens were designed by owner James Rea and garden architect Thomas Mawson.

View north up the River Duddon at the end of Wallowbarrow Gorge. The eastern side of the gorge is largely wooded with the prominent summit of The Pen standing out above the trees. At this point the river Duddon flows through an area of large boulders and deep pools.
