The Awatea (Maori for “eye of the dawn' or ''daylight') built by Vickers Armstrong Barrow for Union Steam Shipping New Zealand, launched 25 Feb 1936. Photo taken during departure from Barrow in July 1936. The Awatea was requisitioned during WW2 as a troopship and sunk by the Luftwaffe off North Africa in 1942.
