A hospital parade is taking place in a shopping street with people lining the edges of both pavements to watch. Prominent is float number 40 with a wrap-around illustration promoting the Furness Railway, named on the pelmet above it. The horses drawing this float are impressively turned-out with plaited and decorated manes and polished, ornamented saddles. Behind is a horse-drawn fire engine, helmeted crew on board, followed by people pushing decorated bicycles.
