Revellers at South Shore Carnival

Early C20th

On the beach just south of the Tower, with the Royal and Palatine Hotels visible. A large crowd of men, women and children watches a dance e.g. Ring o' Roses taking place. The dancers are in fancy dress, with a footman holding the shafts of a 2 wheeled cart. A man is dressed as a native American Indian, and a woman, who does not look as if she is enjoying herself, has a turban with crescent moon on it, and a sash reading Blackpool (illegible). Several flags are flying, including the Union Flag, a tricolour, and the US flag.
