Martello Tower, Jersey. Conway Tower, Jersey
Early 20th Century
High tide. Strictly speaking this is not a Martello Tower, but an earlier 'Jersey round tower' (Conway Tower), though they are often called Martello Towers. Possibly Archirondel Tower. Built on a rocky outcrop from 1793-95, it was the first to have a gun platform at the base. Two rowing boats sit anchored on a flat sea. A woman stands at the top of the steps by the door, and someone is sat leaning against the left hand edge of the gun platform.
