Rampside Light Tower

Early 20th century

Looking southwest on a bright but cloudy day along the coastline at Rampside with the last remaining 1875 leading light standing in the rising tide where two groups of two children look carefully at the tideline. On the right, two houses overlook the Bay while on the horizon are Piel Island and Roa Island with its causeway and Walney Island beyond, where the outlines of the lighthouse and four salt works chimneys may be seen. On Piel the outlines of the castle and the Coastguard cottages are clear while on Roa, in the centre of the image, the jagged rooflines and the tower of Villa Marina may be seen.
